Election Reform

Wednesday, November 19, 2025

2 p.m. ET

The United States gives a lot of power over elections to partisans and political parties. That's a bit like letting the players in a sport also be the referees. No other country runs elections like this, and it's increasingly risky for us to do so in this era of toxic polarization and mistrust.

Election Reformers Network is pioneering practical solutions that insulate election governance from partisan control. We're excited to share our work with The Democracy Exchange Network, where we'll be discussing:

  • Why election governance matters: why we need to focus on the oversight and decision making around elections, and how to protect against partisan abuse of power.
  • What's already working: how citizens' redistricting commissions and other independent entities have reduced political party control.
  • What's next: how targeted reforms to key areas like ballot measures and the secretary of state position can further protect our elections and strengthen trust among all voters.
