If You're Looking for Good News about the Strength of Our Democracy
Even as we face some of the worst polarization and most aggressive threats to our constitutional structure in our nation's history, there is reason for hope. Since the year 2000, numerous reforms on state and local levels improved the mechanics of American democracy. These newer laws demonstrated our ability to advance incremental changes that strengthen government of, by, and for the people. States have challenged the role of money in politics, worked to reform the Electoral College, improved how we vote, and clarified how results are verified. The collection of data below illustrates the nation's ability to build -- state by state -- a more perfect union even in the most challenging of times.
